Fractional CFO Services

Better financial decisions. Stronger business performance. Greater business value.

As your business grows, the financial decisions become more complex.

Revenue alone doesn't tell you whether you're building a stronger business. You need to understand what's driving profitability, where cash is going, which parts of the business are creating value, and whether today's decisions are moving you toward the business you ultimately want to own.

I provide fractional CFO support to established, founder-led businesses that need senior financial leadership without hiring a full-time CFO.

Financial Leadership Meets Enterprise Value

You don't need more financial reports. You need to know what to do with the numbers.

Many successful businesses reach a point where basic accounting and year-end financial statements are no longer enough.

You may be asking:

  • Are we actually as profitable as we should be?

  • Where are we making — and losing — money?

  • Can we afford to hire, invest or expand?

  • Why is revenue growing faster than cash?

  • Which clients, services or projects are most profitable?

  • What should our margins look like?

  • How much working capital do we need?

  • What should we be measuring every month?

  • Are we building a business that could eventually operate without me?

  • What would a buyer think about these numbers?

These are CFO questions.

And answering them well can have a direct impact on both your financial performance today and the long-term value of your business.

Fractional CFO Support

Your engagement is built around the financial priorities of your business rather than a predetermined list of monthly reports.

Support may include:

Financial Strategy & Decision Support

Translate financial information into better business decisions around growth, hiring, investment, pricing and resource allocation.

Forecasting & Cash Flow

Build forward-looking forecasts so you can anticipate cash requirements, understand different scenarios and make decisions before problems appear.

Profitability & Margin Improvement

Understand profitability by client, service, project or business line and identify opportunities to improve gross and net margins.

KPI & Management Reporting

Identify the financial and operational measures that actually matter and build reporting that gives management a clearer picture of business performance.

Pricing & Business Economics

Understand the economics behind your pricing, labour, utilization, capacity and delivery model so growth translates into profit.

Financial Systems & Processes

Strengthen the financial information, processes and management disciplines needed to support a larger and more sophisticated business.

Strategic Planning

Connect your financial plan to where you want the business to go — and establish the financial targets and measures required to get there.

Your CFO Should Help Build Business Value

Traditional financial reporting tells you what happened.

Good CFO advisory helps determine what should happen next.

But I take that one step further.

As both a CPA and Certified Exit Planning Advisor, I look at financial decisions through the lens of enterprise value.

That means we're not only asking:

"Will this improve profit this year?"

We're also asking:

"Will this make the business stronger, less risky and more valuable?"

Improving margins, strengthening recurring revenue, reducing customer concentration, building reliable forecasts, improving management information and reducing dependence on the owner can all contribute to a better-performing business today — while helping create a more transferable business for the future.

Who Fractional CFO Advisory Is For

I primarily work with established, founder-led businesses, typically generating $3 million or more in annual revenue, that have moved beyond basic accounting support but don't necessarily require a full-time CFO.

This may be a good fit if your business is growing but financial visibility hasn't kept pace, profitability isn't where it should be, you're making increasingly significant decisions without enough financial insight, or you're starting to think seriously about what the business needs to become over the next several years.

Professional services and project-based businesses are a particular area of focus.

What This Isn't

Fractional CFO advisory is not bookkeeping, tax preparation or outsourced monthly accounting.

Your bookkeeper, accountant or controller makes sure the financial information is recorded and reported properly.

My role is to help you use that information to run a stronger business.

That can mean working alongside your existing internal finance team, bookkeeper or external accounting firm rather than replacing them.

A Stronger Business Gives You More Options

You may want to grow.

You may want the business to become less dependent on you.

You may eventually sell.

You may transfer ownership to employees or the next generation.

Or you may have no intention of going anywhere.

The financial work required to build a healthy, valuable business supports all of those outcomes.

You don't need to know exactly how you'll eventually exit to start building a business that gives you more choices.

Build a stronger business. Create more freedom. Have more options.
